## In short

A couple photoshoot in Nara costs $220 for 30 minutes on the Tobihino deer lawns, starting around 07:00; an extra hour ($150) continues along the Kasuga Taisha lantern approach. You receive 15 edited photos within 3 days. The route is free to walk; we confirm the shrine’s rules for your date and keep poses there to walking and holding hands.

The Nara frame couples ask for is two people sitting in the grass with deer around them. It only looks relaxed when the deer are relaxed, which means the first hours after sunrise, on the lawns away from the cracker stalls. With an extra hour, the session then moves into the cedar forest of the Kasuga approach, where moss-covered lanterns and soft light give the closer, quieter frames.

## How the shoot is planned

We meet at Kintetsu Nara Station and walk east through the park while it is still quiet. On the Tobihino lawns we choose a patch of grass with a few grazing deer and the morning sun behind the trees, and you sit down before any cracker appears; one or two are used at the end of the frame to bring a deer’s head up. The closer couple frames happen here, out in the open park. With an extra hour, we cross from the lawn into the Kasuga approach, where the stone lanterns line both sides under the cedars and the canopy keeps the light soft. You walk the path together, stop between lanterns, and the session ends near the shrine’s outer gate without going inside the paid precinct.

## Timing

Sunrise in Nara runs from about 04:45 in June to 07:05 in January, and the lawns are best from first light until about 09:30. October and November mornings often bring mist into the cedar woods, and they are rut season, so stags are kept to the background. Mid-November maples and the late-March blossom busy the park even early. In June the rainy-season drizzle deepens the moss on the lanterns; a clear umbrella turns it into a prop rather than a problem.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we have a romantic shot with a deer bowing to us?

Often, yes. Deer that expect a cracker bow their heads; the photographer times the frame to the bow, and the cracker comes immediately after. We never fake a hand-out and pull it back, which is how people get bitten.

### Can we kiss on the Kasuga lantern path?

We keep that for the open park. The lantern path is part of the shrine and worshippers use it, so frames there are walking, hands held and foreheads close at most.

### Is 30 minutes enough to cover Nara as a couple?

For the deer, yes — $220, 30 minutes, 15 edited photos. If you also want the lantern path, Todai-ji’s approach or the Isuien garden, add extra hours at $150 each and we extend the route.
