## In short

A family kimono photoshoot in Asakusa costs $300 for 30 minutes and 15 edited photos within 3 days; an extra hour ($150) takes the route on to the main hall and pagoda. Rental and dressing are $55 per person, booked at a shop with children’s sizes close to Kaminarimon. Allow 30–45 minutes of dressing before the shoot, longer for larger families; the route itself is flat and pushchair-friendly.

Getting a whole family into kimono is a logistics job before it is a photo, and Asakusa is where that job is easiest: several shops near Kaminarimon stock children’s sizes from about age three and can dress four or five people in one booking. The route around Senso-ji is flat, paved and short, with benches and toilets close by, so the session keeps moving at a small child’s pace.

## How the shoot is planned

Dressing goes youngest last, so the children spend the least time in kimono before the camera starts. The first frames are outside the shop, where a toddler can wander. Then Kaminarimon for the whole-family picture, with the lantern above — the base half-hour ends here. With an extra hour, we skip the middle of Nakamise and take the parallel lane to Hozomon, which is calmer. At the main hall, children can feed coins into the offering box and waft incense smoke from the jokoro — both make natural pictures. A snack break sits at the halfway point, and the last frames are by the pagoda.

## Timing

For families we recommend 9:30 or 10 am, right after the shops open; that is busy but the session still works with careful framing. For a quiet approach, a dawn start with a dresser at the hotel is possible (quoted separately), though few young children are cheerful at six. November is shichi-go-san season, when Japanese families bring children aged three, five and seven to temples and shrines in kimono — Asakusa looks right then. Summer sessions keep to the morning; children overheat quickly in layered kimono.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much is a family kimono shoot in Asakusa for four people?

Photography is $300 for 30 minutes and 15 photos. Kimono rental and dressing at $55 each adds $220 for four, so $520 in total. The add-on is the same fixed $55 for every family member, toddlers included.

### What if our child refuses to wear the kimono?

It happens. Children’s kimono are lighter than adults’, and a jinbei or short haori over their own clothes is a fallback the shop can switch to. We start shooting the moment they are dressed and photograph whatever mood they are in.

### Can grandparents join, and is the route manageable for them?

Yes. The whole route is level and under a kilometre, with benches near the main hall. Shops can dress older guests in kimono suited to their age, and wheelchairs can reach the main hall area along the paved approach.
