## In short

A family photoshoot in Hokkaido costs $220 for 30 minutes and 15 edited photos, online within three days. In winter we meet at Odori Park in central Sapporo, flat and next to the subway, with breaks indoors; in July we start at Farm Tomita early, before the coaches, on paths a pushchair can manage.

Families come to Hokkaido for two things children love — snow you can roll in, and fields of flowers in July — and both photograph best when the children are doing rather than posing. The constraints are their limits: cold small hands in winter, the coach crowds at the flower farms by mid-morning in summer.

## How the shoot is planned

Winter, Sapporo: we meet at a subway exit with a lift, walk into Odori Park and let the children dig, throw and slide while we work around them; the TV Tower closes the frame at the east end. If small hands get cold, a few minutes in a café to warm them, then a last set under the trees. Summer, Nakafurano: the lower flower beds at Farm Tomita first, a sit-down on a bench for a family portrait with the stripes behind, and an ice cream break before the slope.

## Timing

In winter, a late-morning start (around 10:00) is warmest for small children and still bright; avoid the Snow Festival week in early February, when the park is packed and pushchairs are impractical. In July, start at 08:00 or earlier at Farm Tomita, where the coaches arrive from 10:00. Late September to October is a quieter third season, with autumn colour reaching Sapporo’s parks in late October.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much is a family photoshoot in Hokkaido?

$220 for 30 minutes and 15 edited photos within three days, for the whole family whatever its size. If you are staying in Biei or Furano rather than Sapporo, we quote travel separately.

### How do we keep small children warm?

One-piece snowsuits, waterproof mittens and a hat they will keep on; heat packs in pockets, never directly on skin. We keep a warm café close by for a break, and stop early if a child has had enough — the photos will show it anyway.

### Can we bring a pushchair in the snow?

On Odori Park’s cleared paths, yes, though wheels clog in fresh snow; a baby carrier is easier. Sapporo’s underground walkway connects Odori and Sapporo stations, so we can reach the park without long stretches on icy pavement.
