Inspiration

Japan through other photographers’ lenses

These are not our shoots. Every frame here is by a photographer on Unsplash, credited under the picture, and chosen to show the mood each kind of shoot can have in Japan. Use it to decide what you want; our own Japan galleries will be added as they are delivered.

The gallery is grouped by the kind of shoot, because that is how anyone planning one browses: you want to see couples, or families, or a kimono session. Filter by category and tap any frame to open it full screen.

None of these photographs are ours, and each one says so: the photographer is credited under the frame, with a link to their work on Unsplash. We are new in Japan, and we would rather show you good pictures honestly labelled than pass someone else’s work off as a portfolio. Our own Japan galleries are added as shoots are delivered and clients agree to them being shown.

What a Japan gallery will be for is calibration. A shoot at Fushimi Inari at 7 a.m. looks nothing like one at 11, when the gates are full; a kimono session in Gion’s public streets reads differently in November maples than in April blossom. If you want to know what your place and season will look like, ask — we plan each shoot around exactly that before the day.

Found the look you want?

Tell us your idea and we’ll match you with the right photographer, videographer or drone operator for the place and the season — fixed price in US dollars, no surprises.
