A wedding film lives or dies on sound. Vows, and with extra hours the speeches and the parents' letter, a common moment at Japanese receptions, are recorded on a clip-on microphone and, where the venue agrees, from the sound desk. We ask the venue for an audio feed when we confirm the timeline, usually two to four weeks before the day.

As with photographers, many Japanese venues require their in-house videographer or charge an outside-vendor bring-in fee (mochikomi-ryo). Check the contract before booking us. Shrine ceremonies often limit filming inside the main hall to fixed positions, or forbid it, and lights are not allowed during the rite.

The base 30 minutes covers the heart of the ceremony, the vows and the rings. Preparation and the reception, which in Japan commonly lasts about two and a half hours, are added with extra hours at $150 each. If you also book wedding photography, the two cameras work together, so neither crew ends up in the other's frame during the key moments.

You receive a 60–90 second highlight film within 8 weeks, with licensed music. Raw vows and speeches can be delivered as a separate file on request. Venue and bring-in fees are not included.

Frequently asked questions: Wedding film

Can you film at a venue that has its own video team?

Only if the contract allows outside vendors, so that is the first check. Many Japanese hotels and wedding halls require their in-house videographer or charge an outside-vendor fee (mochikomi-ryo); film also needs the venue to agree to an audio feed from its sound desk, which we request with the timeline two to four weeks ahead.

Can we have the full ceremony and speeches uncut?

Yes, for whatever we film, as a separate lightly edited file with the audio cleaned up, delivered with the film. The base 30 minutes covers the ceremony; to include the speeches, add extra hours. Where a shrine forbids filming during the rite, that part will be missing; we tell you in advance.
