Wedding film in Hokkaido

In short

A wedding film in Hokkaido costs $2,000 for 30 minutes of filming — usually the ceremony — cut into a 60–90 second highlight film with licensed music within eight weeks. Preparation, portraits and the reception are added with extra hours ($150 each). Vows are recorded on a separate microphone, and we confirm the chapel’s rules on outside videographers in writing first.

Why here

Why choose Wedding film in Hokkaido?

Hokkaido weddings happen in hotel and resort chapels — in Sapporo, Furano, Niseko and by Lake Toya — and the appeal is snow outside the chapel window. Filming one is mostly logistics: guests arriving on snowy roads, lenses fogging every time you step inside, a sunset near 16:00 in December, and a venue contract that may restrict outside crews.

How the shoot is planned

How a session in Hokkaido is planned

01

The route

The 30 minutes go to the chapel: one camera at the aisle, one fixed wide, a clip microphone on the groom and a recorder at the lectern. With extra hours the film widens out: preparation at the hotel, filmed by window light; the outdoor portrait window straight after the ceremony — 20 minutes in the snow while the light lasts, coats ready; the reception indoors, with the speeches recorded clean; and the couple outside under lights if the snow is falling.

02

The timing

For a winter wedding, from December to March, put the ceremony around midday so the outdoor portraits fall before 15:00; in December the sun sets near 16:00. Allow buffer for guests on snow-covered roads and for flights into New Chitose, which snowstorms can delay. June to September has long days and no rainy season, with lavender in July — but Furano and Biei venues book up for that month first.

FAQ — Wedding film in Hokkaido

How much does a wedding film in Hokkaido cost?

$2,000 for 30 minutes and a 60–90 second highlight film; preparation, portraits and the reception are filmed with extra hours at $150 each. Travel to Niseko, Furano or Lake Toya and any outside-vendor fee the venue charges (mochikomi-ryo) are extra; aerial shots outside the venue are a $235 drone add-on where the site allows.

Will the hotel chapel let you film?

Many Hokkaido hotel chapels have an in-house videographer and either charge a fee for outside crews or limit where they may stand. Send us the venue before you book us; we ask and get the answer in writing.

Does the cold affect the filming?

Yes. Batteries drain fast outdoors, so we rotate them from inside pockets, and lenses fog when carried into a warm hall; we bring the second camera in early so it is clear for the processional. Wind noise outside is why the vows are always recorded indoors.

Can you also fly a drone over the venue?

Often, outside Sapporo’s densely inhabited district, with the venue’s written consent and never directly over guests. Night flights and flights near people need MLIT approval, so tell us at least three weeks ahead.
