Why here

Why choose Autumn leaves photoshoot in Mt Fuji & Kawaguchiko?

Autumn is when Fuji gives the most in one frame. The first lasting snow has usually settled on the summit by November, the air is clearing for winter, and the maples along the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi turn red at the same time. The catch is that the maple corridor is also the lake’s busiest place of the year, so this session is about the hour before the coaches, not the hour after.

How the shoot is planned

How a session in Mt Fuji & Kawaguchiko is planned

01

The route

We begin at the maple corridor on the north shore, where the trees arch over a stream and a footpath. The first frames are taken from the shore end, with branches above you and Fuji across the water, while the low sun lights the leaves from behind. Then we move under the canopy itself for closer portraits in red and orange shade, and, with an extra hour, finish on the lake path toward Oishi Park, where the October kochia has faded to rust and the mountain sits square across the water.

02

The timing

The corridor usually peaks in early to mid-November, during the town’s autumn leaves festival, when the trees are lit after dark and the stalls draw large crowds from mid-morning. Sunrise is around 06:00 then, and the shore is close to empty until about 08:00. If you arrive in late October, the leaves are still turning but the kochia at Oishi Park is at its red peak, which gives colour in the foreground from a different plant.

FAQ — Autumn leaves photoshoot in Mt Fuji & Kawaguchiko

How much is an autumn leaves photoshoot at Kawaguchiko?

$260 for 30 minutes and 15 edited photos within three days. If you want kimono under the maples, rental and dressing at a nearby studio is $55 per person; for a sunrise start, a dresser at your hotel is quoted separately. Add an extra hour for $150 if you want Chureito Pagoda as well.

What if the maples have not turned yet, or have already fallen?

We follow the colour reports for the fortnight before your date and tell you a week ahead where things stand. Early, we use the red kochia at Oishi Park; late, the trees around Chureito Pagoda and the higher lakes often hold on a few days longer, and fallen leaves on the path are a frame of their own.

Can we shoot during the evening illumination?

You can, but it is the most crowded hour of the festival and Fuji is invisible in the dark. We suggest booking the morning session for the mountain and visiting the illumination on your own afterwards; if you want night frames too, ask about a separate evening slot.
