The route
The base thirty minutes is the vows, at the place you have arranged — a ryokan garden with the owner’s agreement, a hotel terrace above the lake, or a chapel — with the photographer working from the side so nothing stands between you, and the portraits right after. With extra hours, the day can open in your room: the dress, the cufflinks, letters if you have written them, a parent on a video call. And after a toast, we can drive to Lake Ashi for more portraits: the cedar-lined Old Tokaido avenue near Moto-Hakone for quiet walking frames, then the lake path north of the Hakone Shrine torii, which gives the gate and the water without joining the queue.
