Why here

Why choose Travel film in Shinjuku?

A film needs a change of state, and Shinjuku packs a whole day’s worth into one walk. Shinjuku Gyoen gives stillness — ponds, lawns, a skyline held back behind trees — and twenty minutes on foot later you are under the bar signs of Golden Gai and the neon of Kabukicho. Shot across sunset with extra hours, that walk becomes the structure of the film: quiet to loud, daylight to night. The base thirty minutes films one end of it, usually the neon.

How the shoot is planned

How a session in Shinjuku is planned

01

The route

With extra hours, the film opens in the garden. Inside it we film on a small handheld gimbal — tripods need a permit — starting with slow walking shots on the English lawn, then details at the Japanese garden pond: feet on a bridge, a hand on a railing, the Docomo Tower over the trees as the establishing shot. When the garden closes we leave by the Shinjuku Gate and film the walk itself through Shinjuku Sanchome as shop lights come on. Golden Gai is the turn of the film — and where the base thirty minutes begins — entered from the Hanazono Shrine side while the bars are still quiet. The final sequence is Central Road in Kabukicho: the red gate, the crowd and Godzilla above, filmed in short takes for the ending.

02

The timing

If you add the garden, the plan is built backwards from its closing time, which moves with the season: about 4 pm from October to mid-March, later in spring and summer. Autumn and winter therefore line up best — the garden closes close to sunset and the walk east happens in blue hour. Avoid Mondays, when the garden is usually shut. In the rainy season we keep the garden section short and lean on reflections in the lanes.

FAQ — Travel film in Shinjuku

How much does a travel film in Shinjuku cost?

$430 for 30 minutes of filming, a 30–45 second edited film and a 15-second vertical cut, delivered within 7 days. Adding the garden takes extra hours at $150 each, and the ¥500 garden entry per person is separate. Music is licensed for personal social use, so the film can be posted without being muted.

Can you film inside Golden Gai bars?

Only where the owner agrees before other customers arrive, and never with customers in shot. Most of the Golden Gai footage is the lanes themselves — signs, stairs, you walking through — which needs no one’s permission but good manners.

Do we need to say anything to camera?

No. The film is cut to music from natural moments: walking, looking, laughing. If you want a short spoken line for social media, tell us beforehand and we record it with a clip-on microphone in a quieter spot.
