Why here

Why choose Pre-wedding photoshoot in Asakusa?

Asakusa suits a pre-wedding shoot that wants Tokyo’s traditional side without leaving the city. Rental studios here dress couples in shiromuku and montsuki and will hold a gown and suit while you change, and the temple, the river and the Skytree are all within a ten-minute walk. The base half-hour covers one outfit at Senso-ji while it is empty at dawn; with extra hours we can change into Western dress for the riverside as the crowds arrive.

How the shoot is planned

How the shoot runs around Kaminarimon

01

The route

Hair and make-up begin at around 4:30 am at the studio or your hotel. By six we are at Kaminarimon, and the base half-hour covers the gate, the closed shutters of Nakamise and Hozomon with no one else in frame. With extra hours, the main hall and pagoda follow as the sun reaches them. Around 7:30 we return to change — the studio keeps a room — and walk to Sumida Park in the gown and suit. The finale is Azuma Bridge with the Skytree and the golden flame behind, finishing before the riverside fills mid-morning.

02

The timing

Dawn is not optional here: after nine the approach is too crowded for a train or a shiromuku. October to April is the comfortable range — summer sunrise is before five and the heat makes a gown hard work by eight. Cherry week in late March and early April is the most requested and the most crowded; book by January. Avoid the Sanja Matsuri weekend in May and New Year, when Senso-ji receives millions of hatsumode visitors.

FAQ — Pre-wedding photoshoot in Asakusa

Does Senso-ji allow pre-wedding photography?

The grounds are public and open at all hours, but wedding shoots should be cleared with the temple, and tripods are not used in busy hours. We contact the temple office when you book, follow whatever conditions it sets, and keep the shoot handheld and out of worshippers’ way.

What does an Asakusa pre-wedding shoot cost in total?

Photography is $800 for 30 minutes, 15 photos and one outfit; each extra hour, for a second outfit or the river, is $150. Hair and make-up adds $100. Wedding kimono rental is priced by the studio — shiromuku and iro-uchikake cost more than standard kimono — and we quote it once you choose. A Mandarin-speaking assistant on the day is $70.

Can we bring our own gown and suit?

Yes. Bring them to the studio where you dress in kimono and they are held there until the change. Choose a gown with a train you can lift: Nakamise and the bridge pavement are stone and tarmac, so we pin it up between frames.

Can we also get a Skytree view from higher up?

Not by drone — Asakusa is inside Tokyo’s densely inhabited district, and we do not fly there. For height we use the Azuma Bridge approach and, if you add extra hours, a riverside café terrace that permits photography, booked in advance.
